Kangaroo in café leaves customers hopping home

A small male kangaroo hopped into a Melbourne cafe yesterday morning, stopping customers from having their breakfast.

Staff and patrons Goldies Coffee House in Epping Plaza understandably jumped at the sight of the unusual guest, calling Wildlife Victoria to help to remove it.

"On arrival [volunteer] Heidi was met by Constable Hatzimanolis and Constable Stephenson from Epping police, who had done a great job keeping passers-by at a distance," Helping Hands Animal Rescue posted on its Facebook page.

The kangaroo was dubbed Goldie, after the café, before he was returned to his family.

"Goldie [the kangaroo] was successfully blanketed [caught with a blanket]. He had minor injuries from when he first entered the café, crashing into windows -- a split lip and minor toenail wear. He was happily released by Wildcare volunteer Robyn to a safe area, back to his family mob, and I'm sure was grateful not to be lost anymore!"
