Four people in Germany have been injured after a man with an axe went on a rampage through a train.

Three of the injured are in a critical condition, while fourteen other passengers are being treated for shock.

The Bavarian Interior Minister said that the axe-man was a 17-year-old refugee from Afghanistan.

Police rushed to the train station in Wurzburg-Heidingsfeld, near the southern German city of Wurzburg.

The suspect attempted to escape police by running from the train, and was shot dead.

The train line between Wurzburg-Heidingsfeld and Ochsenfurt is closed.
