A 10-year-old boy dubbed the world's fattest child has been put on a crash diet to save his life.

Indonesian boy Arya Permana currently 190kg, has already been forced to quit school over his weight problem.

His mother is now trying to dramatically cut his food intake to save her son.

"He is perpetually hungry and has an enormous diet, and can actually eat meals of two adults at one time," his mother told local media.

"He is always tired and complains of shortness of breath. He only eats and sleeps and when he is not done with both, he jumps into the bathtub and stays there for hours."

When he was born, Arya weighed a normal 3.2kg. He started putting on weight at an abnormal rate when we was about two years old.

From now, he'll be living on a diet of brown rice.

"I hope to see my son perfectly normal one day," his father said.
