In the wake of a disastrous week in the news for the United States' African-American population, a hashtag on social media has risen up to offer some light relief.

The #CarefreeBlackKids2k16 hashtag rose to prominence after Buzzfeed employee Heben Nigatu posted a video of her and a group of friends singing to their local postman on her Twitter feed.

The post has since garnered more than 10,000 retweets and 17,000 likes, and instigated a series of similar tweets designed to encourage America's black community.

Since Ms Nigatu's original post, thousands of others have shared their favourite images and videos on the social networking site.
