One of the two US police officers shot in a late-night attack in the Californian city of San Diego has died.
The San Diego Police Department says the second officer is still in surgery after the shooting, which took place at about 11pm Thursday (local time).
Police have already detained one suspect and remain on the lookout for others.
They are using helicopters, SWAT vehicles and patrol cars in an attempt to locate any other assailants.
Residents in the area have been urged to stay inside their homes as the situation remains unclear.
