When animals attack

Warning: Images in this video may upset some people

Despite our claims of being the smartest animal on earth, when it comes to being around dangerous animals, we're really not.

By now you've probably seen the video of a woman dragged off and mauled by a Siberian tiger at a wildlife park in Beijing.

Two women apparently got into a fight. One decided to get out of their car when a tiger leapt at her from behind.

Two other people got out of the car to give chase, but one of them ended up getting killed.

If we're going to keep animals in places like this we probably need to rethink how we behave around them.

There are numerous instances of animals attacking people in human-created environments:

The thing to remember is that animals are animals. No matter how tame or domesticated they may seem; their survival instinct means they'll attack whenever threatened or agitated.

Animal rights groups like People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) want zoos banned completely, but there are others who say they're important tools for conservation and education.
