A Google account manager who went missing while jogging near her family home in Massachusetts has been found dead.

On Sunday night (local time) Vanessa Marcotte's body was reportedly found naked and burned in a woodland area near the house in Worcester County.

Local police have classed the incident as a homicide and are investigating the possibility 27-year-old Ms Marcotte was sexually assaulted before being killed and set on fire.

Google has paid tribute to Ms Marcotte, saying in a statement: "Vanessa Marcotte was a much loved member of the Google team, working in our New York office for the last year and a half, and known for her ubiquitous smile, passion for volunteer work and love of Boston sports.

"We are deeply shocked and saddened, and our thoughts are with her family and friends."

A police source told local media Ms Marcotte was found with burns on her hands, feet and part of her head.

The Worcester County District Attorney said the circumstances of the death were 'horrific'.

Police are searching for suspects and combing the area for evidence relating to the death.
