Williams was arrested on Wednesday and found to have cannabis, ecstasy and methamphetamine in her system from a party in Melbourne. Police say they checked her because she looked suspicious and nervous. They allege a bag of meth weighing 0.34g fell out of her pocket.

The amount is below the threshold for the death penalty, but still carries a four to 12 year prison sentence.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says they're 'aware of the detention of a New Zealand citizen in Bali".

The New Zealand Embassy in Jakarta is in communication with local authorities and providing consular support, as well as talking to the woman's family.
