A Saudi Arabian Airlines jet was isolated at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Tuesday after the pilot advised the control tower that the plane was "under threat".

The Philippine civil aviation chief confirmed the plane was isolated at the airport, but that the reason was not yet clear.

Around 300 passengers were on board the plane from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, which landed at around 3pm (local time).

The plane's crew has since told the airport the distress call was a mistake, according to local media.
