Snake bites off more than it can chew

The 6m rock python struggled to digest the antelope

Ever been so hungry you could eat an antelope?

A 6m rock python in the Indian state of Gujarat certainly was.

Residents found the snake lying in a field, clearly uncomfortable. They informed the Girnar Wildlife Sanctuary, who took it into care.

It died soon after whilst trying to regurgitate the antelope. Snakes are often unable to move after a big feed - and this was a particularly big feed, even if it was only a youngster - and resort to vomiting so they can escape threats.

"It succumbed to the internal injuries caused by the blue bull," deputy conservator R Senthilkumaran told the Times of India.

The blue bull antelope is the largest found in Asia.
