A US woman's tweet has gone viral after she shared an embarrassing memory of an 'apology cake' her mother made for mistakenly thinking she was a drug-addict.

Rachel Gelmis' mother was shocked when a faulty drug test four years ago concluded her teenage daughter had been taking all major drugs - marijuana, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.

Miss Gelmis hadn't taken any of the drugs the results alleged, but had to endure rehabilitation talks with her mother before the correction was made by the drug testers at her high school.

The result of the drug drama was a cake with an unabbreviated apology in icing, complete with smiley face.

"I was freaking out!" Miss Gelmis told BuzzFeed. "I was so scared. I kept racking my brain for a reason that I might have tested positive for everything, and I had no idea."

The post has been shared more than 10,000 times and liked more than 23,000 times on Twitter. Users shared sympathy, saying it was more than what their mothers would have done.
