A 19-year-old first-year university student in the US was arrested last week after drunkenly crashing in to a police car while sending a topless photo of herself to her boyfriend on mobile app Snapchat.

Miranda Kay Rader was driving around Bryan, Texas at around 8:30pm local time when her car smashed into the back of a parked police cruiser, the Daily Mail reports.

Officer John Sartell, who had parked his car outside a residence as he attended a disturbance call, ran out to find Rader's SUV crashed into the car.

The Texas A&M student was reportedly found with an unclasped bra and was attempting to put her blouse back on.

She told Mr Sartell she had been "taking a Snapchat photo to send to her boyfriend while she was at the red light".

An opened bottle of wine was also found in the centre console of her car.

Sartell failed a breath test and was arrested and jailed for driving under the influence and being a minor in possession of alcohol. She was later released after posting a US$2000 bail.
