The family of New Zealand woman Warriena Wright says the trial for her murder has been "incredibly traumatic".

Queensland Homicide Victims Support Group spokesperson Deb Taylor spoke to media outside court moments after the jury found Gable Tostee not guilty of Ms Wright's murder.

Ms Taylor said the family were still coming to terms with Ms Wright's death, as well as "enduring the anguish of being present" for the trial in Brisbane.

She said the family asked for privacy as they returned to New Zealand so that they could grieve in peace.

The family thanked the Queensland police service and detectives involved in the case, along with the DPP for their support.

Ms Wright's family travelled from Lower Hutt for the trial.

Mr Tostee was found not guilty after four days of jury deliberations.
