Argentina has been rattled by a magnitude 6.4 earthquake centred in San Juan province, according to the US Geological Survey.

It was initially reported as magnitude 6.7 but has since been revised.

The quake was 115.8km deep and was felt in the neighbouring country of Chile.

USGS predicts a low likelihood of damage or fatalities. None have been reported so far.

It's the second earthquake to hit the country in just over a week, after a magnitude 6.2 quake struck on November 13.
