Colombian authorities say there are six survivors after a plane crashed with 81 people on board, including a Brazilian football team.

Medellin's international airport said the aircraft, which had 72 passengers and 9 crew, had departed from Bolivia.

In a statement published on Twitter, the airport said the rescue operation is being hampered by harsh weather conditions.

360 Radio Colombia is reporting that wounded passengers are being transported to a nearby hospital.

It says 30 fire units are attending the scene.

The charter aircraft was carrying 27 members of Brazilian club soccer team Chapecoense, which was scheduled to play in the finals of South American tournament Copa Sudamerica on Wednesday.
