An earthquake has struck off the Solomon Islands this morning, the second major tremor in the western Pacific in as many days.
The quake measured magnitude 6 and was only 10 kilometres deep. It hit southeast of the capital Honiara, about halfway between there and Kirakira.
A small tsunami wave hit Papua New Guinea, and power was knocked out in some regions, reports The Japan Times. There were no other reports of damage.
Other quakes overnight include a 6.1 in Micronesia and a 6.4 on the border of Brazil and Peru. There are no reports of damage from either.
