Italian rugby players form rolling maul to rescue stranded ambulance

Video has emerged of the heart-warming moment two Italian rugby teams banded together to free an ambulance carrying an injured player from a waterlogged pitch.

Ambulance staff were left stranded in the middle of the field, and looked to have brought the game to a permanent stop - but the players united to heave it off the soggy turf.

Players from Valle Camonica and Casalmaggiore, who play in the fourth tier of rugby in Italy, made a rolling maul and pushed the vehicle off the field.

The ambulance had earlier been called in after Casalmaggiore player Michele Prevedello was injured by a hefty tackle.

A post on the team's Facebook page said the injury would "keep him away from the field for a bit".

"After all these thousands of likes for the episode of the ambulance we wanted to reassure those who were worried," the team posted.

The game finished in a last-minute victory to Casalmaggiore, but both teams are winners in the eyes of the world for the part they played in the impressive push.

The video has been viewed at least 1.2 million times on Facebook, getting more than 23,000 reactions.
