Melbourne train station brawl planned - police

A mass brawl involving at least 30 people at Melbourne's Flinders St train station was planned, according to Australian police.

Five men in their 20s were arrested after the alcohol-fuelled fight broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police say they were aware it had been organised, and deployed a number of officers to help keep conflict to a minimum.

However, many of the brawlers spread out across the platform and fought in smaller groups.

Capsicum spray was used by officers to bring an end to the fracas.

"At this stage there have been no other reports of injuries and an investigation into what caused the fight is underway," a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.
