Video shows floodwaters surge through Fijian town

Severe flooding in Fiji has left a town on the northern coast of Viti Levu completely cut off, with all roads underwater.

The town of Rakiraki has been closed by authorities due to flooding that has swept through a service station, covered streets, and left cars half-submerged.

The tropical depression is responsible for the heavy downpours right across Fiji's main island.

Many towns have reported flooding, particularly in the north and east of the island.

In the southeast of the island, the Rewa River has burst its banks.

In the town of Nausori, the local hospital was temporarily relocated to a church however operations have since returned to normal.

The heavy rain is expected to continue, and a flood alert remains in place.
