Dubai launches 'Dolphin' jetpacks for firefighters

  • 23/01/2017

A need to battle blazes in skyscrapers more effectively has resulted in one of the coolest innovations to ever happen to firefighting.

The invention is a water jetpack referred to as a 'Dolphin', which is capable of propelling firefighters metres into the air, allowing them to get a better look at fires in tall buildings.

Dubai Civil Defence announced it was looking into jetpacks as a viable "early-response firefighting service" in late 2015, and it has now become a reality.

The first set of 20 jetpacks has now arrived in the Middle Eastern nation ready for use.

It's not known whether Dubai will invest in any more, but one thing is for certain: there'll be plenty more people applying for jobs in the fire service.
