Famous swimming pigs found dead in Bahamas

A group of much-loved pigs at Exuma in the Bahamas are believed to be at threat after seven of them were recently found dead.

It's thought tourists are to blame, with allegations visitors have been feeding the pigs beer and rum.

The feral pigs are a tourist favourite in the area, often frequented by celebrities, and feature in countless photos swimming in the crystal clear water in Big Major Cay.

About 15 of them are still alive, the Nassau Guardian reported.

The pigs have lived on the island for almost 30 years and this is the first time a tragedy like this has happened.

Feeding will now be regulated and a protective boundary could be put up to protect the rest of the pigs.

The pigs featured on The Bachelor America last year and have recently been spotted in photos with Donald Trump Jr and Amy Schumer .

They are believed to have been dropped off by a group of sailors who wanted to come back and cook them, but never returned.

Other legends say the pigs swam ashore after surviving a shipwreck, or that they were simply a tourist ploy.
