Sydney has been hit by a freakish summer storm.

Enormous hail stones pelted the city late on Saturday as a severe weather front moved across New South Wales for a second straight day.

The massive hail stones punctured car windows in several suburbs, and sent Sydney-siders running for protection.

Three sisters, aged all in their 60s, were hit by lightning as they sat together on a bench in Corbett Gardens in the city’s south.

One of the women had to be airlifted to hospital with severe burns, while the other two have been treated for shock.

Meteorologists say they expect the stormy weather to abate on Sunday.
