Magic enthusiast cheats death after drunken 8m fall

A man attending a magic conference in Britain has pulled off a real-life escape act, after falling from the roof of a nearly 8-metre-high building at the weekend.

The unnamed magician, who was at Blackpool's Winter Gardens for the seaside town's magic convention, had climbed a pillar to the roof in a drunken stupor, according to reports.

Fellow magician Arron Jones was watching the incident unfold and had the presence of mind to start filming - which meant the moment he fell was caught on camera.

In Mr Jones' alarming footage, the man is seen traversing a steel roof support for a long time before his hands become unstuck and he plummets to the ground.

While Mr Jones didn't react quickly enough to actually capture the man's landing, the thud of his body striking the ground can be heard.

Amazingly, the man is reported to have survived the fall - though ambulance staff said he suffered both head and arm injuries and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital as a "major trauma case".
