UK nightclub roof collapses, punters hold it up

Dozens of nightclubbers in the northern English city of Manchester held up a ceiling with their own hands after it collapsed on them.

In an incredible piece of footage, a large portion of the panelling on the roof can be seen falling in the club known as The Factory, and people can be heard shouting in surprise and fear.

LED lights smashed as a result of the fall, with some clubbers complaining glass from the bulbs and dust had fallen into their eyes.

University student Tom Foster told The Mirror that even though people were screaming and crying and half the room had fallen into darkness, The Factory's staff took about two minutes to do anything.

"It took about two minutes for the DJ to stop then bouncers rushed in, but there was no plan," he said.

"I was surprised there was no announcement - I would have thought there would be in a situation like this to help people calm, when half the room is holding up the ceiling of a very old building."

The cause of the collapse remains unknown at this stage.
