Husband jailed after killing wife in car crash during sex

A man will go to prison after killing his wife when he crashed his car into a canal while he was drunk, high, and having sex.

Matthew Notebeart, 33, has been sentenced in Palm Beach, Florida to five years in prison for vehicular homicide and for DUI causing injury.

His wife Amanda was killed in the crash in 2014 after Notebeart crashed his car into a canal while the two were having sex, The Daily Mail reports.

The couple were not wearing seatbelts and Notebeart's blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit with traces of marijuana also detected in his system.

The crash happened after they attended a concert together. Amanda was 31 when she died, and left behind the couple's two children.

In sentencing, Judge Laura Johnson called the crash a "senseless, tragic act".

"You failed your wife, you failed your children and you failed all your family that is here today," she told Notebeart.

He had spent time in jail before, and had previous convictions for reckless driving and leaving the scene of a crash.

Once released from prison he will serve two years probation with conditions including having his licence suspended for ten years and undergoing random alcohol and drug testing.
