'I have HIV' - Elderly woman stops invader raping her

An 88-year-old US woman who talked a home invader out of raping her has told local media how she did it.

Helen Reynolds lives in an apartment complex in Parkesburg - a small Pennsylvania town. A man posing as an apartment worker forced himself inside her home and tied her up with duct tape.

Ms Reynolds says he covered her face, nose and glasses with the tape, even putting a piece in her mouth.

But she managed to still be able to talk, telling the intruder she had HIV and her husband had died from it. The man then just walked out of the bedroom, she says.

It was a lie, but she says it saved her life.

"I have nothing good to say about him. Nothing at all. Put him in jail, and leave the sucker there," she told 6ABC.

A 17-year-old man has been arrested and charged for a very similar crime committed a few days before the attack on Ms Reynolds, but authorities say it's not connected to her home invasion.
