Is this the world's saddest cheeseburger?

A particularly fussy fast food customer in Britain has ordered a cheeseburger at McDonald's, without the burger.

Connagh Hawkins, who goes by the name 'Merchant' on Twitter, posted a picture of his order, saying: "I ordered a cheese. Not sure what I expected."

The photos show he made his order on the self-service machine, specifying: "No onion, no ketchup, no mustard, no pickles, no bun, no meat patty."

The result was a McDonald's burger box with nothing but a slice of cheese inside.

It's not clear whether all Mr Hawkins really wanted was a slice of cheese, or whether he was simply toying with McDonald's staff.

Either way, it cost him 99 pence (NZ$1.73) - the full price of a cheeseburger with everything.
