The French National Rugby League has announced disciplinary action will be taken against former All Black Ali Williams.

In an official statement, the president of the French rugby body says an official complaint has been laid.

Williams, who plays for French club Racing 92, was with former Wallaby, James O'Connor, when they were arrested in Paris on cocaine charges.

The 35-year-old was caught allegedly buying cocaine outside a nightclub in the French capital. Police said he was seen in a car with two drug dealers, while O'Connor acted as a lookout.

Williams tested negative for drugs, but O'Connor did not. Both have been stood down from their respective clubs.

Williams is set to appear before a closed court this week.
