An Australian man has hit the jackpot winning more than $1 million three weeks after being made redundant.

The man who wished to remain anonymous told Lotterywest he had been working at an unnamed company for 10 years before he was laid off due to apparent financial pressures.

At the time of his win, he was applying for other jobs.

"I can stop working on all those hundreds of job applications now! I'm certainly in no rush," he told WA Today.

He initially thought he only won a few hundred dollars.

"I've been playing Lotto for the last 15 years and it feels good to finally crack it."

Lotterywest spokeswoman Pina Compagnone said Western Australia is quickly becoming a hotspot for lottery winners.

"It was only a few weeks ago we had a syndicate in the area take out over $4.2 million in prize money," she said.
