  • 21/05/2017

A rescue is underway after a humpback whale got itself trapped in a marina in California on Saturday afternoon (local time).

The young whale, around 9m to 12m long, got stuck among boats in the Ventura Harbor at around 4pm.

Video shot from helicopters show the whale breaching in the enclosed space and zig-zagging between the boats, trying to get back to open water.

It's already been trapped for more than two hours and crews from the Ventura Harbor Patrol and the Coast Guard are working on a way to free it.

The whale is likely to be a juvenile, with adults growing between 13m to 16m long.
