Runaway zebra accused of hit-and-run

An escaped zebra in Florida involved in a hit-and-run with a pickup truck raised eyebrows after sprinting through neighbouring properties.

The rogue animal, which bolted from a private property, was running along the road when it hit the truck, breaking the side mirror and shattering some glass. The driver received minor lacerations and was taken to hospital on Friday (local time).

After the collision, the likely dazed and confused zebra ran off to a nearby field, TV news station WCVB reports.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene, where they sent up a helicopter to keep an eye on the runaway beast.

The zebra was eventually corralled and returned home with the help of police and the owner's employees.
