Man shows up to hospital with sack of weed

A Colorado man has been arrested after showing up to a hospital carrying a trash bag of marijuana.

The unnamed man showed up to Belmar ER in Denver on Wednesday afternoon seeking medical help, reports the Denver Post.

Police said in a statement that while "marijuana is legal for adults… you can't take a trash bag full into the hospital".

The man, aged about 50, was described by local media as a transient.

"They were going through his possessions, they came up with this trash bag full of what they thought was marijuana," said Lakewood police spokesman Steve Davis.

It's not clear what medical complaints the man had.

Possessing more than 12 ounces of marijuana is a felony under Colorado law. Between one and 12 is a misdemeanour.

"I think there's a lot of misinformation, misconception people have, especially those out of state that marijuana is legal in Colorado period," Mr Davis said.

The suspect said he found the marijuana dumped outside a shop. Police are investigating.
