A man yelling "Allah is the greatest" on Spain's southern border has had his knife attack on policemen thwarted by an officer's creative use of a plastic barricade.

The man, who was walking through Melilla, Spain's border crossing to Morocco, continually shouted the phrase and managed to wound one agent, who received a cut to his finger.

However CCTV footage showed that he continued to walk towards other officers - seemingly unaware that others were circling behind him.

As he kept walking, one of the eight policemen and security guards surrounding him picked up a plastic traffic barrier - and as others swarmed the man, he threw it at his head.

The throw knocked the man to the ground, and officers were quick to jump on him, remove his weapon, and carry out their arrest.

Police now have the man in custody, and are likely to charge and question him.

Late last month, a man from the region who was suspected of being in contact with a number of terror organisations, including Al-Qaeda and ISIS, was arrested.
