French President Emmanuel Macron will have a blush in his cheeks after being caught out for spending NZ$42,000 on makeup within his first three months as president.
Le Point reports the 39-year-old's personal makeup artist – known only as Natasha M – has put in two separate bills to the executive branch for $16,000 and $26,000.
A spokesperson from the Elysee Palace, which is the President's official residence, has defended the huge cost, saying they called in a contractor as "a matter of urgency", forcing the president to pay more than usual.
The spokesperson promises in future Macron will spend a "significantly reduced" sum.
He's the youngest head of state since Napoleon, and was elected in with a comfortable lead in May.
