US Govt demands details of people who visited anti-Trump website

The United States government is demanding details of every person who has visited an anti-Trump website.

The Department of Justice executed a search warrant on a California-based hosting provider.

It relates to the website used to coordinate protests during the President's inauguration.

The warrant demands the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of 1.3 million people who visited it, along with contact information, email content and photos of visitors to the website.

The warrant also attempts to find out what content each person viewed on the website.

The web hosting provider says the request goes too far.

"That information could be used to identify any individuals who used this site to exercise and express political speech protected under the Constitution’s First Amendment," DreamHost wrote in a blog post.

"That should be enough to set alarm bells off in anyone's mind."
