Car to be reunited with owner 38 years after it disappeared

A car stolen 38 years ago in France is being reunited with its owner.

The blue Peugeot 104, which was stolen in 1979, was pulled out of a swamp by police earlier this week, when a drought dropped the pond's water level.

Apart from being crawling with crayfish, the car - which was only four years old when it was stolen - was in a surprisingly good condition.

Police then trawled through old databases to find the owner, who lives in the Reims area in northeast France.

However, because the car was reported stolen, it no longer belongs to the former owner - the insurance company now owns the vehicle.

The owner told the Washington Post they will still be dropping by the garage, "for nostalgia's sake".
