A mayoral candidate in Charlotte, North Carolina has listed "white" as one of her qualifications.
"Republican & smart, white, traditional," Kimberley Paige Barnette wrote on her Facebook page.
It is the 53-year-old's first run for office.
She has since deleted her Facebook account, but not before angry social media users took screenshots of the post and shared it on their own pages.
It's not the first controversial call in Ms Barnette's run for Mayor. Last month she said lower-income residents "should not be encouraged" to come to Charlotte.
"We should attract higher-income people," she told media.
After removing the post Ms Barnette apologised for any offence caused, local network WRAL reported.
