Arrest after Eiffel Tower put into lockdown

The Eiffel Tower was briefly put in lockdown Friday night (local time) with reports of a man acting suspiciously in the area.

Tourists visiting the Paris attraction were kept inside, while armed police surrounded the base of the landmark. Some visitors were trapped in the tower's lifts.

Images from the scene show witnesses being approached by police, some having their bags checked.

According to reports, police have arrested a man on the second floor, however there is no confirmation of a weapon. A suspicous package was reportedly found.

The tower was locked for about 30 minutes before being reopened.
