IA Chinese police officer has been photographed breastfeeding a suspect's baby.

The baby was left under the care of Officer Hao Lina and her colleagues while her mother was on trial earlier this month. When the baby began to cry Ms Hao, a new mother, stepped in to help.

In a quiet corner of the Shanxi Jinzhong Intermediate People's Court, a colleague captured photos of Ms Hao breastfeeding the hungry infant.

"The baby wouldn't stop crying and we were all worried," said Ms Hao, The Telegraph reports.

"I am a new mother; I could feel how anxious the child's mother would have been. All I thought about was to try my best and comfort the tiny baby."

The court says the baby's mother was charged with fraudulent fundraising, illegally absorbing public deposits and crime concealment, along with 33 other people.

Ms Hao says any other female police officer would have done the same.

"If I had been the mother, I would have hoped someone would help my baby too."

According to the court, the baby's mother was so thankful she began to cry.
