A Russian couple dubbed the 'cannibal couple' is being investigated by police in connection with dismembered body parts found in Krasnador, Russia.

Three days after an alleged murder took place road workers found a cellphone containing a picture of a man posing with fragments of a female body.

The investigation department of the Krasnador District says a 35-year-old man and his wife are suspected of murdering the woman on September 8.

After searching the couple's home investigators found "fragments of the human body in saline" and "food fragments and frozen meat pieces of unknown origin [were] seized in the kitchen".

The two suspects are currently in custody, and investigators suspect that the couple could be linked to other crimes.

According to Russian news service RT an anyomous police source says the couple have confessed to killing and eating up to 30 people, but this has not been confirmed by Russian authorities.
