Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock may have planned attack on Lorde concert - report

Stephen Paddock, the gunman who killed 59 people and injured hundreds more at a country music festival in Las Vegas on Sunday night (local time), may have tried to gun down an earlier festival.

That's according to a source quoted by US publication The Daily Beast, who says he rented condos above the Life Is Beautiful festival in downtown Las Vegas the previous weekend.

The anonymous senior law enforcement officer told the website he rented out multiple dwellings overlooking the concert, which was headlined by New Zealander Lorde and Chance the Rapper.

The Daily Beast says the source is not directly involved in the investigation, but has been privy to briefings on its progress.

They apparently suggested Paddock may have lost his nerve at the earlier festival, and instead turned his attention to the Route 91 Harvest Festival, where he undertook the most deadly mass shooting in modern US history.

Lorde on Monday posted a tweet expressing her sympathy to the victims of the Las Vegas shooting.
