Nine UK servicemen have been sent home and kicked out of the Navy after testing positive for cocaine while on duty amid an on-board sex scandal.

Crew on the HMS Vigilant nuclear submarine are reported to have held coke-fuelled parties while docked in the US, picking up nuclear warheads, reports the Daily Mail. One crew member is said to have had sex with a prostitute in a swimming pool.

It comes after the submarine's captain and second-in-command were both removed amid claims of extra-marital affairs with women on the ship's crew.

It's reported they were the only officers on board with access to top-secret orders regarding the use of nuclear weapons.

And another HMS Vigilant officer is facing court-martial after going AWOL (absent without leave) to fly to the UK to visit his girlfriend.

Two other HMS Vigilant staff have quit, meaning around 10 percent of the 168-member crew have either quit or been kicked out in one of the biggest sex and drug scandals in the Royal Navy's history.
