Three people have been left injured after a taxi mounted the pavement and hit a group of pedestrians, but police say they don't believe the incident to be a terror attack.

The incident happened on Wednesday night (local time) at Covent Garden in London's West End, and left a group of people needing treatment from medical staff.

One of those has been left "seriously injured", with the London Ambulance Service confirming he has a serious leg injury and has been rushed to a major trauma centre.

Two others were treated for minor injuries at the scene, while the fourth received medical checks.

Two vehicles are believed to have been involved in the crash, and the taxi driver was arrested at the scene.

The incident comes just a day after a terror attack in New York, in which a motorist rammed his ute into a cycle way and caused the deaths of eight people.
