Long quake rattles Samoa

There's been a large earthquake southwest of Samoa.

The magnitude 6.9 tremor struck at a depth of 32km around 10pm (NZ time) on Saturday night.

It reportedly lasted about a minute, the Samoa Observer saying it sent people running out of their homes.

The shaking could reportedly be felt as far away as Tonga.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said there was no tsunami threat.
