A Canadian motorist has been caught driving with a bizarre entertainment system attached to his steering wheel.

The man was spotted by the Vancouver Police Traffic Unit on Thursday (local time), who pulled him over after spotting him wearing headphones.

Inside the car, they found the driver had tied an electronic contraption to his steering wheel.

"Can't make it up. Guy had iPad and cell phone attached by strings on steering wheel while driving!" Vancouver police said.

"Yes, that's his ticket he's holding."

Police say they gave the man an $81 fine for driving without his driver's licence - and a long lecture on road safety.

He was forced to remove his electronics display.
