A farmer unknowingly sparked hundreds of conspiracy theories when he tried to do something kind for his wife.

English farmer Murray Graham sprayed weedkiller across weeds and grass marking out the word "Sue" followed by a lowercase "x" in his Oxfordshire field.

"I had some leftover chemical, and I thought I'd give it a go and see if I could put a smile on her face," he told The Guardian.

The 49-year-old had planned for his helicopter pilot son to fly over the farm to take a picture of the gesture.

However, before his son had the time to take flight, a police helicopter discovered the message.

National Police Air Service's Benson posted a photo of the field on Twitter asking users if anyone had any idea who Sue was.

Hundreds of conspiracy theories were offered, from alien invasions to buried bodies.

However, Mr Graham said it was simply a gesture to apologise to his wife for being moody.
