Prince Harry and Meghan Markle make first public appearance

Crowds cheered as Prince Harry and fiancée Meghan Markle arrived in Nottingham for their first public appearance since their engagement.

The pair were showered in gifts, including flowers, cards and chocolate, as they walked down the street to a World Aids Day charity fair.

Markle handled her first taste of royal life well, spending half-an-hour talking to fans.

One fan had the cheek to ask Prince Harry how it felt "being a ginger with Meghan".

"It's great isn't it?" Harry replied almost immediately. "Unbelievable."

It follows comments he made on Tuesday, when he said after being set up with Markle on a blind date two years ago he felt he had to "up my game".

"It was a really nice moment," Prince Harry added during the pair's first interview, when asked how he popped the big question.

"It was just the two of us, and I think I managed to catch her by surprise as well."

The couple are due to marry at Windsor Castle in May, after what Markle described as a "very romantic" proposal.

The Suits actress told the BBC it was just another "cosy night" in at the Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.

"We were just roasting chicken.

"It was just an amazing surprise - it was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee."
