A video posted on social media that shows a young Russian child taking a drag of a cigarette has resulted in an investigation by lawyers.
In the footage, which is believed to have been filmed in a home in the south-western city Vladkavkaz, laughter can be heard off-camera from apparent adult observers.
- Toddler forced to drink beer, smoke marijuana by teenage parent
- Police raid finds toddler in motel where P was being smoked
- Smart kids like alcohol and marijuana, but avoid cigarettes - study
Their laughter comes as the toddler holds the cigarette between its lips and removes it with two fingers, before tapping the burnt end into a nearby ashtray.
It is not clear what age or gender the baby in question is, nor whether lawyers have been able to identify the origin of the footage or who is responsible for posting it.
The prosecutor of North Ossetia-Alania, the region where the footage is thought to have been filmed, is pleading with police to launch an investigation of its own.
Russian media reports that if they're identified and subsequently charged, the adults responsible for filming the video could lose parental rights.
