A man who stole more than three kilograms of eye-fillet steak had no chance when authorities decided to track him using a police dog.
The hungry Canadian man in his 20s stole three large party packs of meat from a butcher and made a run for it on Tuesday, local media reported.
Police were alerted by the shop owner, and then deployed service dog Diesel to track him down.
The thief and the meat were soon returned, with one steak kept aside for the pooch.
"Probably not the best thing to be carrying when a determined police service dog is tracking you down," St John police said.
