An Australian media advisor has lost their job after mistakenly sending a meme mocking a politician to numerous political journalists.
The email, sent from the office of Liberal MP Nola Marino, mocked former deputy prime minister and National leader Barnaby Joyce and former Prime Minister Tony Abbott.
Mr Joyce recently resigned from his leadership positions and was relegated to the back benches, following weeks of news coverage of his extramarital affair with a staff member who is pregnant with his child.
The meme shows a photograph of Mr Joyce and Mr Abbott in Parliament with the caption: "When you get in trouble in class and you get sat to the weird kid no one likes."
The email was recalled minutes after it was sent to an unknown number of recipients including many members of the press gallery.
But that wasn't enough to save the job of the person responsible.
The media advisor behind the email, Ryan Hadjimihalakis, has been sacked from his job due to the error, according to ABC.
